Despite my not really caring for how they have adapted EA at the moment (I too found the Annie bit really really really weak) I totally agree that both series do try to make the realisations come more than once.
Sadly I think the slow progression in LBD (those realisations do come significantly apart in time) works better than the EA ones which are all piled on top of each other so they get lost, whereas Lizzie has significant growth after EACH incident in LBD so we see her really grow.
I'm not really coming around like you are, but this analysis does make me think a little better of it :)
