I prefer the slower progression in LBD too, and I find I appreciate it much more in hindsight than I did while the series was airing. It's more messy but also more true to life. I think the Pemberley Digital writers were trying to do the same with Emma, to create inflection points after the Elton debacle ("I failed") and after the Elton engagement party (changing the company's emphasis), but I just didn't see the growth I would have expected from Emma in each case. I hope I will this time--I would hate to end the series without feeling hopeful about her and Alex's future.
