I wrote my senior thesis on gothic literature written during the Regency period and its reflections of the attitudes of British Regency society. Since I couldn't read them all, I read The Orphan of the Rhine, The Castle of Wolfenbach, and The Mysteries of Udolpho.

I found them hilarious, but I actually really liked Wolfenbach and found it the least comical of them all. I liked the Count de Bouville as a romantic hero, and the evil Mr. Weimar and diabolical Count Wolfenbach gave me actual chills. Maybe I watch too many crime dramas, but their evil deeds seem as if they could happen in real life. Of course, it's been a few years (not quite a decade) since I read them. I might have to fish them out and read them again. As for Udolpho, I like Radcliffe's Scooby-Doo approach to the supernatural. It was _____ all along!
