Do your characters write you, or do you write them?

I ask because I went in search of my older stories having NO RECOLLECTION of ever writing Ash's POV before.

I discovered Lord Douglas Cheveley and Teddy Cheveley in Marriage is a Mistake.

Freddie (in TPE) estate is something pretty similar if not identical to Cheveley and is supposed to be part of his inheritance from his mother, who is the daughter of a duke.

In my other stories this dukedom from which Harriet Fitzwilliam descends is Hollingbury ...family name Cheveley and her nephews (and current duke) are Douglas and Teddy...Who I'd forgotten about. I remember Harriet's family being in it and her being descended from a dukedom but that was all of my Harriet headcanon I remembered.

Except getting back to TPE when I christened Freddie he wasn't even Ash's half brother at that point. That came later. I rewrote the scene but did not change the name. (Originally he was just a bit of a creepy boy never seen again only the facilitator of the *~Meeting~*) It was never *meant* to be a pointer to Harriet's origins/nod to the Hollingsburies....

My extended original characters have taken on a life of their own, and its all winding together to create a synergy I never meant.

*is creeped out*

*looks over shoulder*

(And its really creepy how much Lord Douglas and Freddie are like clearly very very related. I suspect Ash and the Colonel have banned them from being in the same room because it gets TOO MUCH)
