OK, I'm sure this topic has been covered before, but I still find myself unsure. Not being a native English speaker I can't rely on my sense of what is grammatically correct. I had always thought that "He saw Jane and me" was correct and "He saw Jane and I" was an overcorrection. But I see this increasingly often, both in JAFF and published books (though of course, self published low price Kindle ebooks aren't always perfectly edited). Searching the Internet proved confusing, since I found both the above mentioned opinion and the opposite (that in spite of the logic, "He saw Jane and I" was a peculiarity of the language and the correct version). It doesn't help that everyday speech isn't logical about "I" and "me": theoretically "it is I" should be correct but what people say is obviously "it's me". Now what is grammatically correct? Is there a regional difference? A change of language usage?
