Our cat had this problem once, so I can sympathize. It's awful! First, we got flea treatment from the vet, because the fleas can be resistant to the ones sold in stores. Second, we bought a flea comb and used it on her twice a day. You have to have a cup of rubbing alcohol handy to quickly submerge the comb in before the fleas hop away. Lastly, as others have mentioned, you have to clean like mad. I would vacuum twice a day - thoroughly. Every little corner, cushion and crevice. Following this maddening procedure I was able to get rid of them in three weeks to a month. Good luck!
