I was actually thinking of that Meyer interview too. I haven't read any of her books (Reasoning with Vampires is the closest I've come to them), but she didn't deserve the flak she got for those comments. Like I said before, this is weird to explain to someone who doesn't write fiction, but sometimes characters really do take on lives of their own. It means they're well developed and you know what's consistent for them. But sometimes it means what you planned for a plot doesn't work with how the characters turned out.
