I think research is one of those things that grows on you. I certainly never thought of research when I first started writing fan fiction, and I think that's probably true of most people. I would hate for anyone to be discouraged from writing for that reason!
I've wanted to tell you that although I wasn't around when you posted that particular "infamous" story of yours, I've always admired you for writing it. I was a very brave concept to take on, not just because of reader reactions, but because of the challenges it would present to any writer, going so far outside the norm, and trying to take two seemingly irreconcilable personalities and make a believable couple out of them. I'm sorry you got such flack for it; I'm always amused by those who seem to feel it would be better for E or D to be miserable forever than to be happy without each other.
