A few additions if one wishes to follow Austen's usage when writing Regency fan fiction based on her novels: she writes 'towards' instead of 'toward'; she writes 'different from' and not 'different than'; and she is liberal in using 'in spite of' and never 'despite' (there's a slight case for arguing that it had not yet gone through the semantic change to be used as a one word replacement for 'in spite of', altough the phrase 'despite of' or 'in despite of' may possibly have been in use at the time, though she did not).
