Hello All!
I have been writing a late Victorian era story for the past year and have a few questions I can't seem to find answers for in the many sources I have been using. It seems that a lot had changed since the Regency for women, but I know societal rules were still very strict.
First, in 1898 would a well off girl of 18, with no mother, have a Companion?
Secondly, on a train, what was the etiquette? If my characters had a private train car, would single men and women have been traveling together? Would they be left alone?
Lastly, everyone remebers the wonderful book/movie "A Room with a View". Was traveling like Lucy did to Italy, etc. common?
Thanks much for any help you all can provide.
