I love Captain Wentworth so much that I must refute your reference to him and say that Ciaran Hinds was handsome. I think any of his films from Jane Eyre 1997 and before he could be considered handsome.....as long as they do without the facial hair. He is now 61 so I think he is no longer handsome. Colin is more than 5 years younger so thats to his advantage as far as now.
I think that as long as they are making a film, a little eye candy never hurts so long as its not too overboard and the characters look their ages. I must say I am liking the film better after repeat watching. But why not give them decent hair do's.? I think it would have helped alot.
I saw a blurb somewhere in which Anna states that she has a sad face and her hair is much too wispy.
On another note, it was interesting seeing Col. Fitzwilliam play almost a bad guy and Wickham almost a good guy (a war hero?). Its not Jane Austen but this is a different author and the changes may have helped the movie to be more interesting.
I must say that my all-time gripe is Sally Hawkins playing Anne Elliot. I heard that the producer or direct say that "Sally Hawkins is Anne Elliot". And I must say NOT!!! That's another example where so long as you are going to miscast someone, a nicer wardrobe and nice hair and makeup would help a great deal.
