Nerin,

I won't address your question other than to say that I agree with the two comments already made, but re your announcement:

> I have the beginnings of a sequel to Of Masks
> and Men
(now featuring both Jim Gordon and
> Alfred the Butler!)

I'm assuming that, since Alfred Pennyworth is an English butler working in America, that, in your proposed Austen-ized sequel, he must be an American butler working in England, right? (Just kidding).

But as for Gordon, Scotland Yard was still several decades away. Is Jim gonna be a Bow Street Runner, or some kind of local constable or sheriff or magistrate?

By the way, apropos of your announcement, on another site, there's a story challenge going on in which contributors are invited to submit an entry in which one or more of Jane Austen's characters have super-powers. As soon as I saw the challenge, I thought of your story (notwithstanding that Kane And Finger's character was not actually super-powered, per se, but still, just sayin').

I don't think I'm allowed to link to the site because it does allow R-rated type stories (though 90% or more are family friendly). I'm not even sure I'm allowed to mention them by name, though I think I am allowed to say that if you recall the name of the town in the vicinity of which both Longbourn and Netherfield are located, you probably won't have too much trouble finding it.

I wrote two different stories in which WW2-era Naval officer F. Wentworth volunteers to be the subject of a medical experiment and is transformed into the super-soldier code-named "Captain Britannia." Lot of fun. I hope you enjoy writing your sequel as much.

JIM D.
