Re: In defense of green eyes ;-)

I figured I'd post here as the Lizzy I write in An Even Path/A Beautiful Friendship has green eyes (actually green with a very faint cast of gray if, as the author, I'm being as technical as I can be to what I imagine--but they're referenced over and over as green). The reason for that was she's Irish and the green eyes was supposed to be a marker of her heritage.

But I guess I fall under the camp of people that say fine 'dark eyes' could mean any shade the author wants--dark green, amber, blue, or whatever ;-) I figured that even Austen's Darcy noticed E's eyes specifically enough to find them A. unusual B. very beautiful, enough so to comment about it. So however the author wants to indicate 'fine eyes', it doesn't seem to me out of character to give her an eye color that would be noticeable.

I'll also add that I try to change the character descriptions based on the story. If I wrote another Lizzy/Darcy story (which at this stage seems unlikely, but at any rate) I would give the characters different physical traits. Maybe that Lizzy would have dark brown hair, or red curls, or gray eyes, or I don't know. In my imagination it would be a different world with a different 'Lizzy', so I would try to match it on what I thought suited the character.

But to each their own ;) Some authors are very specific and always write imagining a specific P&P film actor, and I think that's fine too. Whatever inspires someone :) Interesting discussion! I always enjoy reading how people pictures these characters
