And Darcy believed his purpose was to protect Bingley, but he had also formed a plan to match Bingley with Georgina, after Georgiana's attempted elopment, to the extent of being anxious Bing's connexions should not hear of it ---chap 45 --
"Not a syllable had ever reached her [Miss Bingley] of Miss Darcy's meditated elopement. ... and from all Bingley's connexions her brother [Darcy] was particularly anxious to conceal it, from that very wish which Elizabeth had long ago attributed to him, of their becoming hereafter her [Georgiana's] own [through marriage with Bingley]. He had certainly formed such a plan, and without meaning that it should effect his endeavour to separate him from Miss Bennet, it is probable that it might add something to his lively concern for the welfare of his friend.'
If one were to think the worst of Darcy, one might even accuse him of planning to match his friend with his sister without his friend knowing about her past!
