Sorry for not reading all of the posts to this thread. If this computer was a hot rod, a snail could blow its doors off.
I think the screenplay for P&P2 is a good place to start. It would take a major study of the book to find a needed fix. Enough has been made of their nib pens which did not come to be until the 1830s. Lyme Park IS Pemberley: Chatsworth, the place used in P&P3 was a stopping place on their tour north, and is a dog house in comparison.
I would Not have Joe Wright (P&P3). He may be the go-to man for a Dickens story or a gothic horror, but Not an Austen story. P&P3 was about as good as any classic adaption for movies, but Lizzie hoofing it back to their room does not fit. (P&P1's Lizzie dashing to Pemberley with her bad news letter is too bad defect for a miniseries.)
I share many of the thoughts about the casting. Elizabeth Garvie (P&P1) is Lizzie and Kiera did not do that bad. Jane should be a pretty girl, and Sabina Franklyn (P&P1) or Rosamund Pike (P&P3) is choice. Actually, the only casting defect in P&P1 was "Mr. Bennet" by Moray Watson. P&P3's Mr. Bennet by Donald Sutherland could not bump "Hawkeye Pierce" of the image, after 30 years.
Several other thoughts blast in and out as I re-read it or watch the adaptions (P&P0 is P&P does Gone With the Wind). Maybe a few more years should lapse before the next adaption, and the idea of imaging the book out be tried.
