I thought Colin Firth, as Darcy, smiled alot more often than what everyone else seems to think. Granted those smiles hardly reached his eyes like the one where he is watching her at the piano. If I could capture stills and post them here, I would. However, I will do my best to describe when I saw him smile:
1) when Darcy came upon Lizzy after she walked 3 miles, he had a hint of a smile.... I guess one would argue that he was mocking her for walking all that way OR maybe he was admiring how her complexion was brightened by the exercise.
2) when Darcy was watching Lizzy dance with Mr. Collins, he smiled there.... of course, one could say he was inwardly laughing at Collins. But he DID smile.
3) after Darcy delivered the line about admiring a pair of fine eyes to Caroline, he had a small hint of a smile.... okay perhaps I am walking on thin ice here.
4) the piano scene at Rosings when he delivered the line: "I'm not afraid of you" to Lizzy, there too was a very slight smile. At least I saw it.
5) again he smiled a little when he asked Lizzy to introduce to him her "friends".
