I think the old MP1 is quite ok although it could be improved of course, I don't mind its Fanny, I have more problem with its Edmund who looked older than his elder brother Tom.
The low-budget MP3 transforms Fanny into a silly, giggling girl who is always running up and down chasing puppies, she seems to be more like Kitty and Lydia Bennet!
I've not seen MP2 and from what I've heard and the reviews I've read, I'm not tempted to watch it, it does not seem to be MP at all. Fanny accepting Henry and then changing her mind, thus driving him to Maria? Fanny is a constant character, if she had accepted him she would not have changed her mind, and Henry's inconstancy is shown when he again flirted with Maria at the very time after he had begun to make some good impression on Fanny. The narrator says in the concluding chapter that had he persevered, and uprightly, Fanny must have been his reward, within a reasonable time of Edmund's marrying Mary. And it seems that the film also turns Sir Thomas into a lecherous, cruel character.
This year is the 200th anniversary of MP's publication, time for a new improved series, an adaptation that is faithful to the book. And what about some MP fanfics from the writers here in honour of its anniversary?
