One of the few decisions I thought was better in P&P3 than P&P2 was casting Rosamund Pike as Jane. She has that look of sweetness and beauty which shines through even when they put her in peasant clothes. I think I'd keep her in my ideal adaptation. Alternatively, Emilia Fox at the right age could have worked well.
I do think that Richard Armitage would be a wonderful Darcy. Of course, he did such a Darcy-like character as John Thornton in North and South that it's an easy transition to picture, but then we'd all have the problem of looking at him and seeing Thornton. Even so, I can't think of anyone better. (Or hotter).
I'm struggling with Elizabeth. I imagine a girl less buxom than Jennifer Ehle, with a mischievous smile and pretty eyes. Perhaps Samantha Barks might be able to pull her off? Or Talulah Riley; I thought she made a surprisingly interesting Mary.
Ooh. Anyone else think Tom Hiddleston would make an excellent Bingley? I thought he did an excellent Prince Hal in the BBC Hollow Crown adaptations of Henry IV/V.
I loved Mr Bennet in P&P2, and I think pairing him with Mrs Bennet from P&P3 would be a great combination.
In terms of non-casting decisions, I think the main focus for me would be to make it true to Jane Austen's novel. Keep the beautiful language and don't make the Bennets into coarse peasants! I think that P&P2 did well in almost every respect there, though I think the 'wet shirt' scene was wholly unnecessary and could be dispensed with. Sorry, ladies.
