Too many Austen afficianadoes (I am sure I misspelled that word but you know what I mean) think Edward an unworthy wimp and wish that Eleanor did better -- taking the colonel from Marianne, maybe, who again many feel don't deserve him. Not to digress too far--maybe I will start a separate thread.
But, yes, I agree with the point that a man of sterling moral character would be good even to a conniver like Lucy and he would do his best to provide for her. This does not mean Colonel Fitzwilliam is a bad man but he would never have been caught in Edward's situation, and he would also never lie like a Wickham.
