Defining historical period

I'm a long way off from posting the story in question, but this has been bugging me for a bit. I'm working on a story starting in 1830. It's not a sequel. It's an alternate universe where the characters are their canon ages, just twenty years later. (It revolves around specific historical events, hence the date change.)

It's still in the Georgian period, just at the tail end of it. At the moment I feel like in terms of tone and whatnot, it would be better suited for the Epilogue Abbey index, as the period is not so different that it would be at home among modern AUs. But would it throw people off to classify it with stories set in the Regency? I keep going back and forth on this.

Like I said, this story is not coming to a theater near you soon, but I've been wondering.
