Captain Blood was Flynn's first swashbuckler, and established him as, possibly, the greatest movie swashbuckler of 'em all.

It got an Oscar nomination for Best Picture, losing to another seafaring picture, Mutiny on the Bounty (which features Clark Gable sans 'stache).
