Re: Some British titles could be held by women

But what happens then? If a woman inherits a dukedom and so becomes a duchess in her own right, does her husband become a duke? And then does her son inherit after her? When a king marries, his wife is always queen, but when a queen marries, her husband doesn't necessarily become king, because being king would mean that he had the power to rule, not her. He becomes the prince consort instead. If a woman is a duchess and her husband becomes a duke on marriage to her, does that mean that he also gains a superior status to her and all her lands, etc, become under her control not his? I know this was standard for proper a woman owned outright, but if it's an estate that's attached to the title, what happens then?
