I don't know as much about culture up north. London was definitely the Town of England at the time, and even landowners from distant Derbyshire (which was a three days' journey, as someone else has noted) would come to London for the Season. But yes, there were some major towns up north, and they would presumably have their own culture and get some of those theater companies that travelled when London was not in season. I don't think Pemberley was closer than a day's journey to any of them, but a lively, culturally interested mistress could probably convince one of those companies to stop over and give performances for the local gentry or something.
Entirely aside, I am hoping you are right about the mineral rights. I've heard another person say that and it seems reasonable to me. I'd always worried about the Darcys during the upcoming Industrial Revolution, which is part of why I got mine into the wool manufacturing trade early, but I have been given to understand that mineral rights were likely a part of the Pemberley income already. That's just hearsay, though, I have no definite information. I'm willing to buy it, though!
