I agree. I also think that neither Elizabeth nor Darcy would care very much about being leaders of the fashionable world. Stories that show Elizabeth becoming a hit society hostess always confuse me a little bit, because I can't imagine her having any desire to slip into that role. As witty and lively as she is, Elizabeth strikes me as being very much her father's daughter - more willing to leave the house than he is, but ultimately caring little for those outside her own circle. She'd care what Darcy's friends and immediate family thought of her, of course, but not be overly interested in attracting the notice of the fashionable (and largely frivolous) high society.
