A few months back, I went to the chapter where the family are discussing Lydia and Wickham. I went with the intention of proving a point, was taken aback when I realised it could be interpreted differently from the way I had always perceived it. I had to read it two or three times and slow down to appreciate the nuances of that conversation. I also realised it has to be taken against the background of Mrs Bennet's dramatic pessimistic expectations. I came away with a much better understanding of Jane.
