Oh my that sounds like a very angsyt story!
I could imagine a story though, that would have Darcy fall into the trap, maybe after an longer illness around his 18th year of life, combined with the first experiences of being of age in the regency society, maybe still friends with Wickham at that point. His cousins would be in the story as well of course...and maybe even young Bingley, around 13 than, could have one or two short scenes.
Hmm, but in the end Darcy of course would get out with just a few ruffled feathers, even showing more controll about himself than before, resolving to avoid things in the future that would show folly or dare redicule by others. Wickham on the other hand starts his career as Wickham as we know him.
